AI prompts for analysing Google Search Console Query data

See this content in the original post

Note that in order to carry out this analysis, you can use any Generative AI tool of your choice, as long as it allows uploading data (e.g. ChatGPT4, Claude).

Step 1 - Prepare your data

Extract data from Google Search Console. You will need the following columns:

Query, Date, Clicks, Impressions, Position

Note that there are several easy (and free) ways to extract the required data from Google Search Console. I have described some of my favourite methods here.

Step 2 - Upload data into AI tool of your choice

I often use ChatGPT4 as it allows uploading Excel and CSV files. But there are other tools available as well, so feel free to use your preferred tool (as long as it allows working with data).

Step 3 - Use prompts (see examples below)

Prompt 1. Quick trend analysis

Generate a dual-axis graph for monthly data: Plot Impressions on the left y-axis and Clicks on the right y-axis. Include clear labels for both axes and ensure only complete data periods are visualised. Highlight each metric with distinct colours and markers, and provide a descriptive title reflecting the trends being analysed

Prompt 2. Top performing queries

Identify the top 10 queries by Impressions. What characteristics do these queries share?

Prompt 3. Query Position Analysis

Filter queries where the average Position is within the top 3. What topics or keywords are ranking the highest?

Prompt 4. Pre/Post Analysis

Look at the performance before and after Jan 2024. How have monthly Impressions, Clicks and CTR changed? Focus particularly on the changes to Clicks. Are the changes driven by any particular Queries or topics? Give me a concise summary.

Prompt 5. Low-Performance Queries

Identify queries with a high number of Impressions but low Clicks. Can you characterise these queries/topics?.

Prompt 6. Trending Queries

Which Queries have seen a significant growth in Clicks in the last 3 months. Please provide a summary of characteristics of those Queries.
